A recent Buzzfeed article featured a photo of Jaime Dimas, design and production senior.
The article, entitled “The Most Hipster Neighborhood in Every State, In Case You Were Wondering,” lists Central Oklahoma City as the most hipster location in Oklahoma.
Under Oklahoma’s listing, the description mentions the Plaza District, Empire Slice House, and Edna’s bar and grill. Dimas is pictured at Edna’s, holding money in front of a wall plastered with dollar bills.
“They got that picture from my Instagram,” Dimas said. “That was one of the two times I’ve been to Edna’s. It was my birthday.”
Dimas said he found out about the article when a friend posted the link on his Facebook wall, but he has not actually read it.
The Buzzfeed article cited Google’s definition of hipster: “a person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream.”
Students said they generally agreed with this definition.
“Being hipster means everything is ironic except when it’s not,” said Sierra Paul, early education freshman.
Dimas defines hipsters as people who do abnormal things without any reason other than being themselves.
“I don’t consider myself a hipster, but people have called me one in the past,” he said. “I’d say the most hipster person at OCU is Forest Wright because he just does him, you know?”
Dimas said he agreed that the Plaza District is one of the most hipster places in Oklahoma City. Laying out on the quad is pretty hipster too, he said.
