Spots are still available for any student who is interested in learning about first aid and becoming CPR certified as a class.
Denise Binkley, director of testing, is teaching a three-week course dedicated to teaching students how to handle dangerous medical situations.
“It’s especially useful for anyone going into nursing or anyone who will be babysitting, nannying or working at camps in the summer,” Binkley said.
The class is from 6-9 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Sept. 9 until Sept. 23. Students who complete the class will receive two credit hours and a CPR certification from the American Red Cross.
CPR is important for everyone to learn so that they can feel prepared if someone close to them needs immediate care, Binkley said.
“I think it would be a horrible feeling to not know what to do in a certain emergency situation,” she said.
Alex Knight, film production alum, took Ms. Binkley’s class over the summer.
“It’s a cool feeling knowing you’re ready to save someone’s life,” Knight said.
He said that Binkley has a very practical and hands-on approach to teaching the class, and he would definitely recommend her course to students. He said he feels more comfortable now that he knows he can provide medical assistance.
“You don’t think it’s useful until you need it,” Knight said. “It’s never bad to be over-prepared.”
