Facebook recently added new options for responses to posts. Aside from the original like button, people can choose to respond with “love, haha, yay, wow, sadness, or anger.” These new options confused me at first, so I created a guide for students to reference when choosing their reaction.
1. Like
This is the feeling students get when they receive the email that their class is cancelled. Their day becomes brighter, but they are also slightly annoyed because it means the money they spent on that class is wasted. If you see a post that makes you jump for joy with only a little irritation, use this emoji.
2. Love
This is the feeling students get when they attend a come-and-go event that has free Empire pizza. If you see a status that makes you feel like you are living the dream and there is a party in your mouth, use this emoji.
3. Haha
This is the feeling female students get when they think about finding a potential spouse on the OCU campus. If you see a post that makes you laugh uncontrollably at your hopeless situation, use this emoji.
4. Yay
This is the feeling students get when they see a dog frolicking around campus. If you see a status that reminds you of dogs or makes you feel like a feisty little pug, use this emoji.
5. Wow
This is the feeling students get when they see the blue phones out of order with a sign that says “In case of emergency, call OCUPD.” They find the irony of the sign hilarious, but they are also slightly horrified. If you see a hysterically funny post that makes you feel a bit unsafe, use this emoji.
6. Sad
This is the feeling students get when they wake up and it’s weigh-in day in their dance class. If you see a status that makes you want to cry while eating ice cream, corn dogs, French silk pie, and canned cheese all at once, use this emoji.
7. Angry
This is the feeling students get when they walk in the caf craving Willy’s brunch pancakes, and the line stretches across the room. If you see a post that is actually just a disappointing mess that fills you with rage, use this emoji.
