Ashley Arnold, music theater freshman, shares hopes, dreams, and experiences. Recently Arnold performed at OCU in Rent and For colored girls who have considered suicide / When the rainbow is enuf. Her passion in performance also appears in other areas of her life.
Q: Tell me a defining moment from your childhood.
A: I was really young, like two or three, and I was on a cruise with my parents and my older brother. We went to see a show on the ship. I was so astounded by the show that I wanted to start doing theatre. I was still in diapers, but was like, Oh my gosh, that’s what I want to do.’
Q: Describe your weirdest dream.
A: I had this one dream where my friend in middle school was really mad at me, but I didn’t know why. I woke up the next morning and was unsure if it was a dream or not, so when I went to school, I was mad at her for being mad. Then, she actually got mad at me. Later, I realized it was actually just a dream.
Q: What is your least favorite word?
A: Boring
Q: What is your dream role?
A: It changes, but recently, I’ve been wanting to play Ursula in The Little Mermaid. I’m obsessed with Disney villains. They’re so cool and powerful.
Q: What is your favorite role you’ve played?
A: My sophomore year in high school, I played Maisie from The Boy Friend. That was fun. She was crazy.
Q: What is a role that you would love to play but probably never will?
A: Nina from In the Heights
Q: Do you like the toilet paper roll set over or under?
A: Let me picture it. I think over. Yeah, over.
Q: What movie is so great that you’d shave your head if it meant everyone could experience its greatness?
A: Hercules: the best movie in the world.
Q: What is the special skill you’ve always wanted to have?
A: I would love to be a gymnast/aerialist. I’d do all the flips and tricks.
Q: Blind date or match.com?
A: They’re equally scary but probably match.com.
Q: Describe your life with one food.
A: Oh my gosh orange chicken. I feel like I am one with Panda Express. If I’m not on campus, I am there. It’s so good. I love it.
Q: What is something you hate that you wish you loved?
A: Sports
Q: Would you rather vacation in NYC, the Rocky Mountains, or Hawaii?
A: Oh, Hawaii!
Q: If there was a fire, what is the one inanimate object you’d run inside to save?
A: I actually learned this from my mom. I would run inside and grab my songbook with all my headshots and resumes because at least I would have that. It’s my baby.
Q: If you created a constellation, what would it be?
A: My dog, Kylie. She’s so cute! A little baby Shorkie (Shih Tzu and Yorkie mix).
