The women’s basketball team defeated Bacone 91-59 on Thursday at the Palmer Center in the first game between the two schools.
Sophomore Guard Allison Frey was one of five Stars that scored in double digits with 20 points stemming off of 4-for-5 shooting from the 3-point territory. The Stars, ranked 15th in NAIA Division I women’s basketball, improved to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU led 41-33 at halftime and pulled away right out of the gates in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Warriors 23-9.
The Stars expanded the lead to as many as 36 points with 4:19 left in the fourth quarter. OCU shot 20-for-21 from the free-throw line in the second half, alone and 24 of 25 overall from the foul line.
Junior Forward Daniela Wallen grabbed a team-high five steals, while notching 19 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Senior Forward Catherine Kruschke notched 14 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Freshman Guard Samantha Stallbaumer and Senior Forward Markeisha Johnson added 10 points each.
The Stars shot 45 percent from the field and held the Lady Warriors to 32 percent shooting. Oklahoma City turned the ball over 17 times but forced the Lady Warriors into 32 turnovers.
The Stars competed against John Brown (Ark.) in the NAIA Network Game of the Week on Jan. 9 at Abe Lemons Arena in Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center.
