The men’s basketball team won their opening Sooner Athletic Conference game of the season against Bacone 91-77 on Jan. 7 at the Palmer Center.
Sophomore Guard Terence Bonhomme spearheaded the Stars win with a team-high 21 points and four steals, while having a share of the team-high in rebounds with seven. The Stars improved to 6-4 (1-0 SAC).
Oklahoma City led Bacone 48-37 at the halfway mark.
Junior Forward Dorion Gigger converted a Warriors turnover into a fastbreak layup to extend the Stars lead to 78-63 with 4:42 left in the second half. After a timeout, Sophomore Guard Lou Dunbar nailed a 3-pointer to lengthen the Stars lead to 81-63 with 3:55 left to play.
Gigger finished with 12 points, six rebounds and a block, while Dunbar tallied 14 points and three rebounds.
Senior Guard Evan White netted 15 points, while shooting 3-for-5 from the 3-point territory.
The Stars shot 51 percent from the field and held the Warriors to 44 percent shooting. Oklahoma City outrebounded Bacone 34-22.
OCU competed against John Brown (Ark.) on Jan. 9.
