The women’s wrestling team advanced past the NWCA National Duals quarterfinals with a 29-10 rout of Lindenwood (Mo.) Jan. 8 at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Junior Cody Pfau and Freshman Monica Mason keyed OCU with falls against sixth-ranked Lindenwood. The Stars, ranked second in the Women’s College Wrestling Association, improved to 15-4.
Pfau pinned Andrey Diaz in 1:44 in the 109-pound bout. Pfau is the top-ranked 109-pound defending national champion. Mason notched the fall over Gabriela Guzman in 1:28 in the 191-pound match to cap the dual.
Junior Rachel Archer and Senior Rachel Young posted 10-0 technical falls for OCU in the 123-pound match and the 130-pound contest. Sophomore Margaret Douma provided the Stars a 23-3 advantage with a victory in the 143-pound matchup before Lindenwood won its first match of the dual. OCU rang up six consecutive wins to that point.
Oklahoma City vies for its sixth championship in the NWCA National Duals. The Stars have previously won the dual tournament in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
