The volleyball team posted a 25-12, 25-17, 25-19 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Saturday at the Sheaffer Center.
Sophomore Manon Soraru topped OCU with 14 kills. The Stars improved to 17-7, 12-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball action.
Soraru notched her first double-double of the season as she had 13 digs as well as her seventh consecutive match with double-digit kills. Senior Jami-Rae Renwick provided OCU with 13 kills and four digs.
Senior Heather Watson amassed 39 assists, five digs and two aces, while Sophomore Dani Chase picked up 20 digs for the Stars. Senior Tori Leisure contributed eight kills and two digs, and Freshman Fia Faa’agi added seven kills, six digs and three blocks for OCU.
In the first set, the Stars reeled off a 9-0 run to leave behind a 7-7 tie. Faa’agi broke the tie by nailing a kill, then recorded a solo block and a combined block with Sophomore Holly Randall during the OCU surge. Renwick’s kill put OCU ahead 22-9, and Chase put away the set with an ace.
Soraru smacked a kill and added an ace as the Stars scored four points in a row to go up 17-12.
In the decisive set, the Stars built an early 6-2 lead. Renwick knocked down two kills, and Leisure added a kill. Soraru’s kill gave OCU match point.
OCU continues SAC play against St. Gregory’s at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
