The women’s soccer team lost its first Sooner Athletic Conference game of the season to Wayland Baptist University (Texas) 1-0 on Wednesday Oct. 28 at J.V. Hilliard Field.
The loss snapped freshman goalkeeper Kirsten Thomas’s five game shutout streak. Thomas recorded four saves and moved to 9-4-1 on the season. The Stars, ranked 23rd in NAIA women’s soccer, dropped to 10-4-1 and 6-1-1 in SAC play.
The Pioneers scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute. The Stars had a chance to tie the game in the final 30 seconds of play when freshman defender Brianna Demuth had a shot on goal off senior midfielder Britani Soesbee’s corner kick but the Pioneer goalkeeper saved it to secure the win.
OCU held the shot advantage at 22-9 with 11 shots on goal to the Pioneers’ 5.
The Stars wrap up regular season play at 1 p.m. Saturday Oct. 31 against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha, Okla.
