The Honors Program is asking Honors students to submit ideas to paint their new space.
The Honors Program moved into their new space in the first floor of the Gold Star Memorial Building at the beginning of August, after the School of Law moved to downtown Oklahoma City.
The Honors Program previously did not have an Honors Hall or meeting space and met in Dulaney-Browne Library or Banning Hall.
They are decorating their new home where they will host Friday Forums and meetings.
“It’s a pretty good sized room,” said Karen Youmans, director of the Honors Program. “We are hoping that we can paint a mural of some kind to give it some more life and character.”
The Honors Student Council was given the project and are deciding how to paint the room, but they plan to begin this semester.
“Dr. Youmans has given the Honors Student Council permission to organize the decorating and development of the student lounge, with a few basic requirements such as keeping the new carpets free of paint and complying with university standards,” said Eric Odum, accounting junior and Honors Student Council president.
“We’ve had one brainstorming session but nothing has been decided yet. However, we are trying to come up with a good idea for a mural of some sort that all interested honors students would be encouraged to help paint.”
Some ideas the Honors Student Council has come up with are to paint a sunset with the silhouette of the OKC skyline or a mural of stars. The council also is encouraging Honors students to submit ideas for painting the wall.
“We’re focused on making the space unique to the OCU Honors Program,” Odum said.
Honors students are excited about decorating the space.
“It’s completely white in there right now,” said Arash Allahyar, biology junior. “I can’t wait to put something on the walls so we can add some color and life to the space.”
