Senior Infielder Ryan Wright and Senior Wrestler Emily Webster were awarded the 2014-15 Jim Wade Award as the male and female student-athletes of the year.
They were among the honorees in the 10th annual Jim Wade Student-Athlete Awards on April 26 at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music. OCU student-athletes were recognized for their achievements this season.
The Jim Wade Award winners are selected by the athletic department as those who best represent the Stars both on and off the field of competition and reflect the spirit of the award’s namesake, Gen. Jim Wade. Wade is a former OCU baseball, basketball and football player and an OCU Athletic Hall of Famer. Wade was a general in the U.S. Air Force who was decorated for service in the Korean War. OCU’s baseball field, athletic office suites and soccer press box bear his name.
Wright has been regarded as a team leader on the baseball team, which has risen to No. 3 in the NAIA rankings and surpassed last year’s win total. Wright has maintained a 3.884 cumulative grade-point average working towards an exercise science degree.
Webster finished her OCU career with four 101-pound Women’s College Wrestling Association national championships and a 118-0 record. Webster took 2015 WCWA Championships outstanding wrestler after becoming the third four-time WCWA champion. She recently became the second OCU student-athlete ever recognized in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd. Webster owns a 3.95 GPA majoring in environmental studies.
