STAR Summit, an annual student leadership event, will take place at 2 p.m. April 24 in the Leichter Room in Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center.
Officials host STAR Summit to receive student opinions regarding student organization activities and begin preparation for next year. Faculty from student activities and student affairs invite student leaders, seeking representatives from a variety of organizations and constituents around campus.
The event will consist of three main components. First, LaVetra Ray, assistant director of student activities, will lead a student organization transition.
Next, Dr. Liz Donnelly, acting vice president for student affairs and dean of students, will engage student leaders in the Top 10 exercise. This activity allows students to decide which 10 issues they want student affairs, and university officials in general, to focus on moving forward.
The 10 issues chosen through this exercise will be shared with the Student Government Association and administration.
Lastly, Donnelly will lead a calendar planning exercise, which allows student organizations to plan events for the 2015-16 academic year.
“Thus far we only have nine RSVPs,” said Lesley Black, assistant dean of students. “But we had 38 attendees last year, and I am hoping for a similar or higher number this year.”
Invited students can RSVP by contacting Black at lgblack@okcu.edu or (405)208-7909. Reservations are due April 22.
“As a leader within SGA, I feel like it is my duty to go to STAR Summit,” said Brandon Elder, acting freshman. “I’m looking forward to an opportunity to voice my opinions.”
