Student Government Association is accepting applications for new officer appointments for the 2015-16 academic year.
Chance Johnson, Student Government Association president-elect, will appoint officers to the SGA executive cabinet. Open positions include chief of staff, secretary of public relations, secretary of finance, and secretary of policies and initiatives. All students are invited to apply for these position. They can visit the SGA OrgSync page to do so.
Nic Rhodes, who was elected as SGA vice president on April 1, is accepting applications for any open Senate seats in the 2015-16 school year. Students who are interested in applying can visit SGA’s OrgSync page, where an application is available.
Also accepting applications for new members is the Student Activities Council. MaryAnn Grover, marketing junior and SGA vice president of SAC, will accept applications for general committee members as well as commissioners.
Though the Homecoming Committee is associated with SAC, its members will not be selected by Grover. Current Homecoming planning officers will choose the next committee members from the applicants.
Grover said that applying for these offices is quick and easy, making it a viable option for students interested in serving the campus.
“Essentially it’s just a simple application, followed by a short interview, according to the discretion of the person or group who’s running the appointments,” Grover said. “No previous experience is required, just a willingness to serve the student body.”
Grover also suggested that those interested in future executive council positions later in their OCU careers apply to the smaller offices now.
“I’d encourage younger students who are interested in SGA or running for a high office position later in their collegiate career to consider applying,” Gover said. “It’s a great way to get involved with Student Government, and it’s more low-key than the election process.”
Students with questions can contact the SGA through ocusga@my.okcu.edu or visit the Student Government Association Office in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.
