There will not be a housing draft this year.
Walker Hall will be co-ed, but open to freshmen only. Draper Hall will only be open to sophomores and up. Banning Hall will remain open only to honors students. Smith Hall will remain closed for renovations.
University Manor Apartment will be reserved for law students and Building 8 in Cokesbury Court Apartments will be reserved for students in the health professionals, physician’s assistant and nursing programs.
The new system will be from 7:30-11 a.m. April 14 through April 16 when students will line up to make their room selections.
Those who wish to live in Methodist, Draper or Banning will go to the Methodist office.
Anyone who wishes to live in Cokesbury or the University Manor Apartments should go to the Cokesbury Court office.
This system replaces the housing draft, which was a lottery style way for students to choose their rooms and roommates.
Students disagree with the changes.
“I honestly think that the housing office can make things more difficult from what it should be,” said Travis Burch, music theater junior. “The housing lottery was efficient and always ran smoothly, so why not keep it how it is?”
Other students think a change was needed, but do not support the new system.
“I think it was a good idea to change it, but I don’t think they changed it effectively,” said Haley Fortune, acting sophomore. “There has to be a way to make it a simpler online task. They almost made it more inconvenient by making students take time out of the school day to essentially fight over rooms.”
