Students elected a new vice president of Student Government Association.
Nic Rhodes, economics sophomore, was elected into the position of vice president of SGA April 1 after students voted via OrgSync.
Rhodes ran against Brandon Elder, acting freshman, for the office.
Rhodes was born in Hurst, Texas, where he played soccer at Lawrence D. Bell High School. He chose to attend OCU after his coach took him on a tour and he was accepted into the soccer program.
Rhodes plans to go to law school or into banking and investments.
In his spare time, Rhodes enjoys playing soccer and hanging out with his roommates.
Before being elected in to the vice presidency, Rhodes was chairman of the appropriation committee.
The appropriations committee reviews bills related to SGA giving funds to student organizations, according to the SGA constitution.
As vice president, Rhodes is responsible for:
-presiding at Student Senate meetings,
-splitting Senate votes if there is a tie,
-appointing a secretary of the Senate,
-setting a suggested agenda for Senate meetings,
-maintaining Senate records,
-appointing members to the Senate committees, and
-serving on the university’s student services committee.
Rhodes said he enjoys being a part of SGA.
“Senate is my favorite thing,” Rhodes said. “I am a huge nerd when it comes to these things. I love to see people bring policies, and I think that Senate has the ability to change the face of SGA. We can really do something positive for the school.”
Rhodes said he has three goals for his time on SGA.
The first goal is to form a technology committee for SGA so the organization can become up-to-date with the way they run their social media.
“I think we are really lacking in the area and I think we could do better,” Rhodes said.
Rhodes said his second goal is to start meeting with different organizations on campus to get them up-to-date with what SGA is doing.
“That would be me going to their meetings,” he said. “I wouldn’t make them come to me. I would love to give them a rundown of what is going on and get their opinion and feedback so I can bring it back to SGA.”
He said his final goal is to begin talks with faculty and administration about the plus and minus grading system that the university uses.
“I think that non plus minus system benefits the hardworking students who get the 90s and 91s and really benefits their grade point averages,” Rhodes said.
Rhodes offciailly will be inducted during the SGA Inagauration at 7:30 p.m. April 14 in the atrium in Wanda L. Bass Music Center.
