- Benjamin Arcand’s five-and-a-half-minute Wackatdooo feels like an elaborate The Aristocats throwback with a sinister twist. It centers on an anthropomorphic, music- and wine-loving cat whose passion for raucous partying takes its toll – though it never gets him down for long. The silent short’s score is swell, and the animation is a fun throwback to the classics. Check it out here.
- The Boy Who Couldn’t Sleep and Never Had To, a five-minute short from Dan Eckman, is a fun, fresh story about a guy who stumbles upon his ability to make comic book characters come to life – and, what’s more, he’s the one who made the comic book. The short is actually a proof of concept for a feature film, and if its hilarious blend of quick comedy and cool, cartoony sci-fi are any indication, it will fare well with a full-length runtime on the big screen. See it here.
- Andy Young’s three-minute faux-trailer Multiplicity 2: A Game of Clones lets us imagine a universe in which George R.R. Martin gets cloned. It’s a silly concept, but the format Young has chosen works well, allowing him to move the jokes along quickly and quit before they get stale. Game of Thrones fans will certainly get a kick out of the short, which can be found here.
