To the OCU student body,
The OCU fraternal community is shocked by the behavior of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter at the University of Oklahoma. What’s most disturbing about the recent events concerning bigotry and racism at SAE is that this type of behavior is still alive in today’s modern society. Greek life is about philanthropy, fellowship, and personal growth. The behavior exhibited shows an institutional failure by SAE to uphold these universal fraternal values.
While no two Greek organizations are the same, none on this campus would expect this type of behavior, nor would we ever tolerate it amongst one another. We are blessed to have such a diverse and exceptional variety of Greek men at this university. While the expectation for excellence might be higher here at OCU, there are basic expectations of decency that we cannot allow to be dropped anywhere. We recognize OU’s swift action against the chapter, and would like to particularly commend President David Boren on his handling of the situation.
The OCU fraternal community encourages all students and all chapters nationwide to continue to foster the type of social growth that we see on this campus. We appreciate the continuing efforts of the faculty, staff, and administration at OCU in support of these fraternal ideas and values.
Respectfully,
Mason Maidt, representing IFC
