The annual Spring Sing competition has been rescheduled after inclement weather led to the event being cancelled on March 4.
The competition will now happen at 8 p.m. April 8 in the Petree Recital Hall. This date was chosen because it was the only time Petree was not already booked said Alex Johnson, entertainment business senior and vice president of Blue Key Honor Society.
University closings include any events on campus, but organizations can petition the provost to allow them to still host the event. Blue Key petitioned to still host Spring Sing because road conditions had not deteriorated at the time, but the petition was denied because it was possible to reschedule the event.
Though rescheduling an event can be stressful, organization members participating in Spring Sing now have an opportunity for more practice.
“Organizations can send in new rosters so people who couldn’t participate before now can,” Johnson said. “Since it’s no longer right before midterms I think people will be less stressed and have more time to commit.”
There are mixed feelings about the change in the performance schedule. Some student organizations are now able to have more participants than before.
“It’s been challenging but my group has been really flexible throughout the process,” said Sydney Hughes, music theater sophomore. “You have to put safety of students first.”
Other organizations are facing difficulties because of their members’ other commitments. Libby Dowell, theater and vocal performance junior and Gamma Phi Beta’s song chair, said that she wishes they could have still performed on March 4.
“We’ve had a little bit of difficulty negotiating schedules and we might have to move things around,” Dowell said. “It would have been a lot easier for us to hold it then.”
