The soccer team has raised enough money to get a new locker room after nearly five years of fundraising.
“All four years that I’ve been here, we have shared a locker room with the guy’s team,” said Ashleigh Story, liberal arts senior. “It’s the tiniest little thing, and it smells terrible in there, so it’ll be nice for them to get an upgrade.”
The money primarily was raised from alumni donations, said Nathan Doll, assistant soccer coach.
“We’ve been fortunate enough to have a lot of our alumni go on and be successful in their careers after college, ” he said. “They’ve been gracious enough to donate to us.”
The city permits are still pending, but are expected to be finalized in the next few weeks.
Then they will start on the new building, which will be located next to Stars Field, Doll said.
“It’s nice that it’s on the field because they won’t have to go from there all the way to the gym,” Story said.
The building will be two stories. The first floor will house separate locker rooms for men and women as well as the offices of the coaches. The second floor will be a player lounge and study area where players can hang out and work on homework.
The building is expected to be finished by the next season.
“We’re happy to finally meet our goal,” Doll said.
