OCU professor and author is organizing a tour of Germany this summer that will explore some of the places she remembers from her childhood while growing up there during World War II.
The tour, from June 22 to July 2, is open to the public and will be led by Christiane Faris, a German professor emeritus at OCU and author of last year’s release of the memoir “‘The Nicest Nazi’: Childhood Memories of World War II.”
The 11-day tour will cover sites relevant to the book and World War II, and also includes visits to specific locations of historical interest as Germany prepares for the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Lutheran Reformation. The trip to Northern Germany is custom designed for the discerning traveler and avoids sites of mass tourism.
Faris, born in Berlin during Adolf Hitler’s dictatorship, lost her family home to bombing during the war. The family moved to picturesque Celle, a town flooded with refugees, and shared her grandmother’s house with more than 50 other people.
“2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Germany,” Faris said. “The tour includes remarkable sights of historical and contemporary Germany.”
Cost for the trip is $3,685 per person, double occupancy. Space is limited. For more information contact Sunshine Travel Service at 405-948-8642, 1-800-522-5809 or by email to snshinetv@aol.com.
