Phi Gamma Delta is hosting their annual philanthropy week and inviting students to participate in several activities to support the Red Cross.
Activities planned throughout the week began on Feb. 2 where they had a class teaching basic first aid in the Great Hall from 7-10 p.m.
Feb. 4 students are invited to join their organizations and compete in a truck pull. The winners of the competition will receive a surprise gift from FIJI. They will create an iron-rich feast 8-11 p.m. Feb. 6 to help raise money for the Red Cross.
“We would love people to come out and eat, get some food and get some energy to prepare for the blood drive that Alpha Phi is hosting the next week,” said Jacob Overling, senior business administration major and president of Phi Gamma Delta.
The money raised during the week will be given to the Red Cross as a donation.
“We don’t have a set number that we want to raise, our goal mainly is to raise awareness for the Red Cross, and then secondary is monetary support,” Overling said. “We would like everyone to not just come out and support the Red Cross, but support the Fijis. This is our last big event until we charter, so it would mean a lot to us to have people that really support us and love having us here come out.”
Students wanting to get involved should come to one or all of the planned events to assist the brothers of Phi Gamma Delta and their philanthropy.
Phi Gamma Delta has two different philanthropies, the United Service Organization and the Red Cross.
The fraternity members hosted a week of events raising money for the USO in the fall.
Events included a fundraising night at Raising Cane’s and the Spaghetti for Soldiers dinner.
This will be their third year raising money that the Red Cross uses for research and disaster relief.
“The Red Cross helps millions of people worldwide with disaster relief and any way we can give back is important to me,” said Stewart Ottersburg, vocal performance freshman and social chairman of FIJI.
