A world-renowned brass group will open the 2015 Distinguished Artist Series this February.
The Grammy Award winning group Canadian Brass will perform at 8 p.m. on Feb. 6, in Petree Recital Hall in the Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center.
Tickets are $35, and can be purchased in advance online or at 405-208-5227.
The five-member brass group, who are well known both for their wide musical repertoire and their costume of sneakers paired with tuxedos, have performed across the world. They were founded in Toronto in 1970, and their tradition of fine brass music has continued with more than 100 albums recorded and over 600 new works and arrangements produced for brass quintets.
The group is currently led by founding tubist Chuck Daellenbach, along with trumpeters Caleb Hudson and Christopher Coletti, trombonist Achilles Liarmakopoulos, and Bernhard Scully on the horn. Each of the performers is an accomplished musician in their own right, but perform their tightly tuned pieces as members of the group.
The quintet is recognized as “the world’s most famous brass group,” and has played over 7000 performances during their 45 years as a troupe.
