The softball team opens the 2015 season ranked fifth in the preseason NAIA softball rankings announced Tuesday.
The Stars posted a 55-13 record and a tie for third place in the NAIA Softball World Series last season. OCU led the NAIA in wins last year.
The team paced the NAIA in runs scored (495), at-bats (1,809), innings pitched (426.1) and putouts (1,279). The Stars scored the most runs in the NAIA for the second consecutive season.
Junior Kyndra Holasek set the NAIA single-season record with 120 hits last year. Holasek also topped the NAIA in runs scored with 83, doubles with 26, total bases with 185 and at-bats wiith 237. See how the Stars ranked among the national leaders by clicking here.
The Stars were one of three Sooner Athletic Conference teams in the top 25 – St. Gregory’s checked in at No. 6, while Oklahoma Baptist stood at 21st.
The Stars opens the season Feb. 13-14 in the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas. The team’s home opener will be a 2 p.m. doubleheader Feb. 17 against Friends (Kan.).
The team has captured eight national championships in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2007.
