The athletic teams were hard at work while other students were home for the holidays.
The basketball teams spent their break playing in Abe Lemons Arena and beyond.
The men’s basketball team played Jan. 3 against St. Thomas in Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center, winning 91-74. They went on to begin conference play again USAO on Jan. 8 in Chickasha, and won 78-76.
The next men’s basketball game is January 15 against Southwestern Christian in Bethany, Okla.
The women’s basketball team also played through break. They went up against Lubbock Christian on New Year’s Day in Texas. The Stars won the game, 85-81.
Their latest game was Saturday against Mid-America Christian in Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center. The Stars won 80-66.
The men’s wrestling team attended the Desert Duals on Dec. 20 in Las Vegas and came out on top. The teams beat two top-10 ranked schools, Concordia at 28-15 and Indiana Tech at 31-9.
The women’s team advance in the NWCA National Duels with a 33-11 victory over Wayland Baptist on Jan. 9. The team is ranked second in the Western College Wrestling Association.
Senior wrestler Demi Strub said the break was a good time to train and spend time with the team.
“Nationals was this past week, so we had that to get ready,” Strub said. “Christmas is a tough break because of all the food, so training was good.”
The next home wrestling match for the men is Jan. 21 against Ouatchita Baptist in Henry. J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center. The women will compete in the Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center in March for the USAW University Nationals.
