The women’s basketball team beat Mid-America Christian 80-66 Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars held Mid-America to 26.9 percent (7-of-26) shooting from the floor in the second half. OCU, ranked second in NAIA Division I women’s basketball, improved to 9-1, 4-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while Mid-America went to 9-4, 2-2 in the SAC.
Senior Ouleymatou Coulibaly recorded her third double-double of the season for OCU with 18 points and 15 rebounds. She scored on 8-of-17 shooting from the field and brought down seven offensive rebounds.
Senior Yvonte Neal added 16 points and three rebounds, while junior Catherine Kruschke scored 15 points and grabbed eight boards.
OCU led by two at halftime, but sprung an 18-2 run to start the second half. Junior Cara Neighbors sank two free throws with 3:08 remaining to give the Stars its biggest lead at 21.
“We had to make some adjustments at halftime,” Coach Latricia Trammell said. “I didn’t think we were defending well enough, but we had some help from our bench. I was really proud of their effort.”
The Stars dominated points in the paint with a 42-16 advantage, and also owned a 13-2 advantage in fastbreak points and a 41-21 bench points advantage.
The Stars continue SAC play at 6 p.m. Thursday at Southwestern Christian in Bethany, Okla.
