The men’s basketball team beat USAO 78-76 on Thursday, Jan. 8 in USAO Fieldhouse.
Senior Gary Inglett led all scorers with 24 points and six rebounds. The Stars improved to 6-3, 2-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while USAO fell to 1-9, 0-3.
Senior R.J. McGhee added 19 points, seven rebounds and five steals, and senior Tharone Chilton contributed 14 points and pulled down three boards.
The Stars overcame a 37-34 halftime deficit while shooting 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from the floor, and converted on 15-of-19 free-throws in the first period.
The Stars come out of the locker room with a fire and took a nine point lead with 23:06 to play. USAO battled back to tie the game at 59-59 with 10:20 left in the game.
McGhee got a steal and a breakaway dunk to put the Stars up eight with under a minute and a half in the second half.
USAO ended the game on an 8-2 run when Inglett scored on a pair of free-throws with eight seconds left to put the game out of reach.
The Stars continue conference play at 5 p.m. Saturday against Mid-America Christian at Abe Lemons Arena.
