Senior Defender Danny Frid became an NAIA men’s soccer honorable-mention all-American, and seniors Luca De Piccoli and Ruy Vaz accrued NAIA scholar-athlete recognition.
Frid received the honor of Sooner Athletic Conference player of the year. The Stars finished 10-5-2 with their first SAC regular-season championship since 2008 and reached the SAC Tournament championship match for the fourth time since 2007.
This season, Frid posted six goals, two assists, 14 points and two winning goals. Frid’s penalty-kick goal in double overtime brought OCU a 4-3 victory Oct. 21 over Oklahoma Baptist University at Stars Field. Frid nailed another penalty kick in the second overtime to give the Stars a 3-2 win over Texas Wesleyan University on Nov. 11 at Stars Field in the SAC Tournament semifinals. Frid finished his OCU career as a two-time all-conference performer.
De Piccoli has a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average working towards a degree in software engineering.
Vaz has compiled a 3.67 GPA majoring in film production and philosophy. Vaz generated eight goals, three assists and 19 points this year. He had a hat trick at St. Gregory’s University on Oct. 7.
As a senior, Vaz reeled in College Sports Information Directors of America academic all-district, the SAC offensive player of the year award, first-team all-SAC and SAC offensive player of the week for Oct. 6-12.
To become an NAIA scholar-athlete, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
