OCU partnered with Arvest Bank to conduct research surveys about financial security and its link with holiday spending.
The study asked 400 Oklahomans about their spending habits, financial outlook, plans to invest in major household items, current level of debt, and demographic information.
The results showed that many are more optimistic about their financial situations then in recent years.
According to the survey, 73 percent felt optimistic about their financial situation and outlook. Those with children were more positive about their finances (72 percent), while 68 percent of people without children were positive.
The University of Oklahoma, University of Arkansas, and Missouri State University also worked with Arvest to process the results and their meanings.
To conduct surveys and analyze the responses, Arvest partnered with Oklahoma City University, the University of Oklahoma, University of Arkansas and Missouri State University.
The results of the study project better holiday sales for local businesses in Oklahoma. Many consumers reported feeling more comfortable with the state of their finances this year than they did during the recession, and would feel more comfortable making major purchases.
