The women’s basketball team beat Texas Wesleyan University 84-69 Thursday at the Sid Richardson Center.
The Stars improved to 4-1, 1-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, Texas Wesleyan University fell to 6-4, 0-1 in women’s basketball.
The Stars jumped out to a 12-2 lead three minutes into the game.
In the first half senior Ouleymatou Coulibaly led the offensive attack for the Stars with 15 points and five rebounds, and senior Rateska Brown added 14 points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Stars’ largest first half lead came at the 4:04 mark in the first half with a 20-point lead.
The women forced Texas Wesleyan into 14 first half turnovers and 28.6 percent shooting from the floor. The Stars took the 51-35 lead into the locker room.
Texas Wesleyan University opened the second half with a 23-8 run to close the gap to three with 10:50 to play in the game.
Brown led all scorers with 30 points and added eight rebounds. She scored seven three-pointers for the second straight game. Coulibaly finished with 25 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
The Stars returned home at 1 p.m. today to play Wayland Baptist University at Abe Lemons Arena.
