The men’s basketball team suffered a loss against Texas Wesleyan University in the Sooner Athletic Conference opener.
The Stars led the game for nearly 29 minutes. The Stars fell to 3-3, 0-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while Texas Wesleyan University improved to 9-0, 1-0.
Junior Jamil Donovan, scored on a fast break with 17:37 to play in the first half to give the Stars a 10-4 early lead. OCU opened up a 12 point lead twice, the largest in the first half.
Senior R.J. McGhee led the Stars with 10 points in the first half. Junior Evan White provided the Stars with eight points off the bench, hitting on 2-of-3 3-pointers.
The Stars took a 44-40 lead into the locker room.
Texas Wesleyan came out of half time and took a five-point lead with 15:32 to play. Senior Gary Inglett tied the game with 13:48 to play.
The Stars opened a six-point lead with two free-throws from senior Tharone Chilton with 8:04 left in the game. Texas Wesleyan went on a 10-4 to lead 81-77 with 4:03 to play.
With 1:13 to play McGhee made two free-throws to open a 6-point Stars lead. Texas Wesleyan went on a 10-2 run to close the game and collect the victory.
Texas Wesleyan had a 48-33 rebound advantage. McGhee finished with 27 points, five rebounds and six assists. White scored a season high 23 points, including five 3-pointers.
The Stars return home at 3 p.m. today to play Wayland Baptist University at Abe Lemons Arena.
