The women’s basketball team beat MidAmerica Nazarene University 78-63 Saturday at the Noble Complex in the Oklahoma Baptist Holiday Classic in a battle of top 25-ranked women’s basketball teams in NAIA Division I.
Senior Rateska Brown rang up 31 points while burying seven 3-pointers. The Stars improved to 3-1.
Senior Ouleymatou Coulibaly supplied the Stars with 14 points, four rebounds and two steals, and freshman Kara Partridge picked up 11 points, three assists, two steals and three treys. Senior Janay Borum recorded 10 assists and three steals.
The Stars took the advantage of 24 MidAmerica Nazarene University turnovers to produce 28 points.
“I was very proud of our team effort,” Coach Latricia Trammell said. “We went into this weekend shorthanded, and we had the entire team step up and contribute in a positive way. This weekend was exciting to watch. We are coming together.”
The Stars used a 12-0 run to push their lead to 63-41 with 10:17 remaining in the game. Brown had eight of those points, nailing back-to-back 3s to widen OCU’s advantage to 59-41 at the 11:40 mark.
During that OCU splurge, MidAmerica Nazarene University went without a point for 3:04. The Stars kept the opponents without a basket for 3:55 in a stretch that included OCU’s 12-0 onslaught.
Brown totaled seven points as the Stars built a 14-2 lead early.
OCU opens its Sooner Athletic Conference slate at 6 p.m. Thursday at Texas Wesleyan University.
