The men’s wrestling team beat Bacone College in Muskogee 34-9 Wednesday at the Palmer Center.
The Stars, who are ranked 12th in NAIA wrestling, moved to 3-2 in duals.
The team got rid of a 9-7 deficit by taking the final five matches of the dual. Sophomore Ricky McCarty pinned Bacone’s Tyler Logan in 1:47. McCarty moved up to sixth in the latest 165-poind NAIA rankings.
Senior Jared Bass took down Bacone’s Eric Stocen in 2:14. Bass is ranked 11th in the 174-pound NAIA rankings.
At 141, senior James Landoll beat Bacone’s Abel Villamoreno 17-4 to give the Stars a 10-9 edge in the dual score.
Freshman Brok Williams’ 11-0 win against Bacone’s Preston Steen put OCU ahead 14-9 after the 149-pound match.
Junior Zach Skates defeated Bacon’s Steven Melara 21-5, finishing the match with 1.5 seconds remaining. Skates ranked fourth in the last 157-pound rankings.
Senior Aaron LaFarge blanked Bacone’s Erik Gonzalez 17-0 in the 125-pound match. Lafarge ranked third in the rankings.
Sophomore Derek Sivertsen won the 197-pound, 7-3, against Bacone’s Jose Hernandez. Sivertsen is ninth in the 184-pound rankings.
The Stars wrestle again in the King Open at 8 a.m. Sunday in Bristol, Tenn.
