Cross country teams will compete for championship titles in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The NAIA cross county championship races will be Saturday, Nov. 22, in Lawrence, Kan. The women’s race will start at 10:30 a.m., and the men’s race will start at 11:45 a.m.
The men’s team placed first and, the women’s finished 16th at last year’s competition.
The men’s cross country team won the Sooner Athletic Conference championship, and the women’s team placed third.
Reno Blum, exercise science junior and men’s team captain, expects the team to win again this year, despite fierce competition.
“It’s going to be harder this year because Southern Oregon is really good,” Blum said. “But I think we’ll win.”
The women are hoping to place higher this year.
“We’re faster than last year,” said Kaitlin Pontikes, economics and finance junior and women’s team captain. “I’m confident that we’re going to race to our full potential and show how hard we’ve been working all year.”
There will be 36 other colleges and universities present at both races, including Oklahoma Baptist University and St. Gregory’s University.
Coach Connor Holt said the teams will begin training for indoor track season after the races. The season for indoor track starts in January.
