The men’s basketball team lost to Langston University, 83-68, Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Senior R.J. McGhee anchored the Stars with 22 points. OCU fell to 2-2 in men’s basketball.
The Stars led 8-1 just inside the first two minutes, their largest lead of the game. Langston University went on an 11-4 run to tie the game at 12 with 14 minutes and 21 seconds left in the first half.
Langston University opened up to a 14-point lead, but OCU closed the gap to 38-30 at the end of the first half.
“We have a target on our back,” Coach Dionne Phelps said. “That team came in intent on doing what they did. We have to find our identity on defense. It’s important that we do so because in two weeks we’re in conference play. “
Senior Tharone Chilton made a layup at 16:34 to close the Langston University lead to four, but the Stars weren’t able to take the lead.
Langston University extended the lead in the second half to 19 with 7:52 left, and the Stars were unable to catch up.
The highlight for Stars is that they shot 17-19 from the free throw line.
Chilton added 17 points, five rebounds and four steals. Senior Dema Sane led the team in rebounds with seven total, producing eight points.
The Stars travel to the University of Central Oklahoma 2 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton Field House. OCU beat UCO, 98-83, during the first game of the season on Nov. 3.
