The men’s soccer team has been working their way to the NAIA Championships in Delray Beach, Florida in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
The men finished their regular season with a record of 8-4-2 overall and finished first in their conference games with a 7-1-1. The Stars were hoping to excel in their tournament so they could head to nationals in Delray Beach, Florida.
There were 10 teams total in the conference, and the top eight made it to the tournament.
“Because we finished first in conference, we are obviously expecting to get to nationals,” said senior Defender Danny Frid, who won the Sooner Athletic Conference’s player of the year. “But we are struggling with a few injuries, so we will have to see.”
All the tournament games were hosted at OCU because they finished first in conference.
They won their first tournament game against Mid-America Christian University Nov. 8, 2-1, and their game against Texas Wesleyan University Nov. 11, 3-2, in double overtime.
After these wins, the men played the final tournament game against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Friday Nov. 14. The men lost 2-0, breaking their three game winning streak.
The Stars are waiting to see if they received an at-large bid into the NAIA Championship Opening Round. Selection will take place Monday Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. To watch coverage of the selection show go to http://portal.stretchinternet.com/naia/?DB_OEM_ID=27900.
