Senior Defender Danny Frid was named Sooner Athletic Conference men’s soccer player of the year Friday.
Frid is a team captain and a two-year starter for the Stars. This year, he racked up five goals, two assists and 12 points, with the addition of scoring the winning goal against Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., Oct. 21. As a junior, Frid was first-team all-SAC.
“It’s a great honor to win SAC MVP,” Frid said. “But I would not have won it if the team did not win the conference. It’s down to the team’s hard work and determination that won me the award.”
Four other players received SAC honors.
Senior Forward Ruy Vaz won offensive player of the year. Vaz also claimed first-team all-sac, as well as freshmen Goalkeeper Vladimir Kalajdzic. Senior Midfielder Kieran McLachlan and sophomore Defender Aron Chapman collected second-team all-SAC.
Coach Brian Harvey was also named coach of the year.
Vaz is the Stars’ top goal scorer this season and two-year starter. He contributed six goals, three assits and 15 points. He is a two-time SAC offensive player of the week. He provided the game-winning assist against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha, Okla., and helped the team capture the SAC regular-season championship.
Kalajdzic played every minute for the Stars and brought in 85 saves for the year. He collected 10 saves against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Oct. 21. He has had three matches with double-digit saves, including a career-high of 13 against Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, August 31.
