Freshmen are allowed to live in Methodist Hall dormitory, against university housing policies.
Incoming freshman students have been able to apply and be accepted to live Methodist Hall for at least the last three years. The dormitory is a coed campus living facility for upperclassmen only, according to the campus housing website, www.okcu.edu/residencelife/methodisthall.
Sarah Cason, psychology and addiction studies sophomore, and Christine Ebeling, vocal performance sophomore, lived in Methodist Hall as freshmen. Both students applied to live in the dormitory at Stars 101, an event hosted on campus in April to help incoming freshmen apply for financial aid, housing and pick out their classes for their first semester at OCU.
“They didn’t tell me ‘no’ when I asked to live there,” Cason said. “As far as I know, they knew I was a freshman, and I know that there are several freshmen this year living in Methodist.”
Athletic coaches can request for their athletes to be placed in the same housing facility as the rest of the team, Freshman Golfer Emma Allen said. Allen was placed in Methodist Hall with the rest of the golf team to help the team feel more connected.
“Since I am the only freshman this year my coach especially wanted me to live there,” Allen said.
University housing officials Ade Okediji, director, and Oubon Sychareune, housing operations coordinator and resident director of Methodist Hall, were unavailable for comment Oct. 28.
“I was the first in line for housing at Stars 101,” said Jacob Overling, business administration junior. “I think they knew I was a freshman, since the event was for mostly freshmen students.”
