We continue our exploration of the works of Eoin Duffy with three of his longer animated shorts. You can find his work here.
- The two-and-a-half-minute short Encounter is a series of vignettes about man’s interference in nature’s affairs, specifically in the sea. It has Duffy’s signature quirky, minimalist visuals and sharp, nonverbal humor. The animation has a smooth, flowy quality that feels at home in the film’s setting, and the use of small sound effects instead of music throughout gives the jokes an extra punch.
- Clocking in at 50 seconds, The Unconscious Homeless Man delivers exactly what the title promises, along with a mischievous bear. Duffy pulls a clever bait-and-switch with the plot, presenting one gag that suddenly turns into another one entirely. You’ll start off disgusted and finish in stitches.
- In the vaguely holiday-themed Snowflake, Duffy flexes the sonic aspects of his chosen medium to great effect. The 47-second short combines his customary cheeky visuals with almost disturbingly discordant audio, topped off with his usual twist ending.
