The women’s wrestling team had five wins Friday, Oct. 24 in the Oklahoma City Cliff Keen Duals at Abe Lemons Arena on the OCU campus.
Ranked second in the Women’s College Wrestling Association, the Star’s wins included:
- The University of Cumberlands, in Kentucky, 41-7
- Missouri Baptist University’s second team, in Missouri, 48-0
- Lyon College, in Arkansas, 46-1
- Missouri Valley College, in Missouri, 39-6
- Life University, in Georgia, 47-1
Senior Emily Webster, sophomore Rachel Archer, junior Kayla Aggio, and sophomore Heiley Garcia posted falls to key OCU’s 15th shutout in the program’s history against Missouri Baptist University’s white team (meaning that the opposing team failed to score any points).
As a team, the Stars produced 22 pins in their five duals. Aggio led the team with five falls. Her quickest fall came in at 17 seconds against the University of Cumberlands’ sophomore, Kristen Yamasaki. Aggio ranked third at 143 pounds, also stuck Lyon College’s freshman, Hannah Del Angel in 19 seconds and Missouri Valley College’s freshman, Nayza Martinez in 48 seconds.
Archer and sophomore Cody Pfau had four falls each. Archer brought Missouri Baptist University’s freshman, Briana Davie down in 49 seconds, and Pfau brought Lyon College’s freshman, Bobbi Navarrete down in 38 seconds.
Garcia pinned Missouri Baptist University’s freshman, Kenady Beaudoin in 20 seconds, and junior Sharese Thomas pinned Lyon College’s freshman, Shannon Ballard in 16 seconds.
Sophomore Tanalei Louis had the quickest fall of the day for the Stars. She brought down Wayland Baptist University’s freshman, Jordan Smith in 14 seconds. Louis competed for the Mystery Team on Friday.
The second day of the duals started at 9 a.m. Saturday Oct. 25.
