The women’s basketball team is the favorite to win the Sooner Athletic Conference title.
Defending NAIA national champions, the Stars were the first choice on nine out of 10 ballots submitted by the SAC’s women’s basketball coaches, leaving them with 90 points.
The team finished last season with a 27-4 record. They have also won 15 title spots in the Conference, with five consecutive wins.
Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., was Ranked second with 78 points, followed by John Brown University in Siloem Springs, Arkansas, who came in third with 76 points.
Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, came in fourth with 68 points, Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City, Okla., came in fifth with 57 points, and Texas Weleyan University in Ft. Worth, Texas, came in sixth with 49 points. Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas, placed seventh with 32 points, ahead of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha, Okla., who got 25 points, and St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Okla., who got 22 points.
The basketball season begins Oct. 31, with 10 teams scheduled to compete. The SAC teams will use a double round-robin scheduling model, in which each team plays a home and an away game against each of the other teams. League teams will compete for two automatic national-tournament bids.
