- French filmmaking collective HOTU’s three-minute 87 Bounces is not your typical short film. Somewhat of a cross between a supercut and a flipbook, follows a basketball as it bounces through cinematic history. What it lacks in story it makes up for in slick nostalgia. Watch it here.
- Six-minute short Snooze Time, from director Ivan Barge and writer Matthew Harris, feels like it would be more comfortable in a late-50’s beat poetry club than onscreen. Despite effective acting and a driving visual rhythm, the film, which centers on a woman’s journey through life, is largely muddled and rather boring. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, but if philosophically-minded poetry is your jam, check out the short here.
- It’s not often that you can describe a middle-aged, slightly balding man as adorable, but Greg Packer certainly fits the description. In the documentary short The Most Quoted Man in the News, a five-minute short from Andrew David Watson, we are introduced to Packer’s quirky hobby of trying to be quoted in as many prestigious print publications as possible. The film is both incredibly polished and endearingly off-kilter, thanks to the juxtaposition of the power of the written word with the almost childlike glee of a man doing exactly what he wants to with his life.
