Jeff Poulin, an OCU alumnus, will host the first-ever statewide Forum on Arts Education in Oklahoma on Oct. 21.
The event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman, OK.
Poulin is currently serving as the Arts Education Program Coordinator for Americans for the Arts in Washington, D.C. The program is a leading nonprofit dedicated to advancing the arts and arts education in America. After earning a bachelor of science in entertainment business from OCU, Poulin traveled to Ireland and gained his master of arts from the University College Dublin. In 2013, he served as an advisor for the Irish government’s departments of the arts and education before returning to the United States.
The forum has been designed to equip participants with an understanding of the current arts education program in this country.
Poulin will guide participants in “creating a substantial, standards-based arts education as part of a quality education for all Oklahoma students,” according to a press release.
After discussing this action plan, a panel of Oklahoma arts education representatives will detail current statistics in Oklahoma, as well as anecdotes revealing how arts education has made a difference in the lives of their students.
Other members of the forum panel will include Dr. Brad Benson, director of fine arts for Norman Public Schools, Ken Busby, the CEO and executive director of Tulsa Arts and Humanities, members of the board of Prairie Dance Theatre, and Elizabeth Ressel, director of an alternative arts education school in Comanche, OK.
This forum is open to all arts educators and teachers, and all members of the artistic community. The event is free to attend and prior registration is not required. The forum administrators expect 130 people to attend.
