OCU earned the second spot in the Women’s College Wrestling Association’s preseason rankings, and nine of OCU’s wrestlers earned spots in the top five of the individual rankings.
The Women’s College Wrestling Association is part of the National Wrestling Coaches Association, which is dedicated to serving and providing leadership and recognition for student wrestlers at all skill levels.
Senior Emily Webster, three-time all-American who won her third national title last season, earned the top spot in the 101-pounds class.
Sophomore Cody Pfau, who collected all-American honors and finished fourth in last year’s WCWA championships, earned the top spot in the 109-pounds class.
Returning all-Americans: senior Brieana Delgado, senior Demi Strub, and junior Sherese Thomas all ranked second in their weight classes. Other all-Americans, junior Rachel Young, junior Kayla Aggio, and senior Heather O’Conner, ranked third in their weight classes. Junior Shelby Morrison, ranked fourth in her weight class.
Sophomore Stephanie Marinez, Haley Moreno, Tanalei Louis, Yvonne Galindo, Heiley Garcia, and freshman Cassidy Jasperson also appeared in the rankings of their weight classes, but not in the top five.
OCU finished 2013-14 as runner-up at the WCWA national championships, won 14 all-Americans, and won one individual national championship. OCU has won WCWA titles in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
