Student Activity Council will provide opportunities for study breaks beginning Monday for Stress Relief Week.
SAC hosts a Stress Relief Week during midterms and finals to encourage students to take study breaks during exam periods.
Midterm exams officially begin Oct. 13.
SAC will have an array of markers and paper for students to color with next week outside the caf in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.
Alvin’s Cafe employees also will leave coffee and tea available after the cafe closes at night.
SAC is partnering with OCU Counseling Services to bring therapy dogs to campus Oct. 16-17. Students can stop and play with the dogs outside on the quad.
Midnight Breakfast and Stress Relief Week occurred during the same week in past semesters. This semester, SAC wanted to draw out the weeks, SAC President MaryAnn Grover said.
“Teachers always draw out midterms over a two week period,” Grover said. “So we are doing Midnight Breakfast and having Stress Relief Week the following week.”
SAC was scheduled to host Midnight Breakfast last night in the caf. The theme was International Chow Down. Students were encouraged to dress like tacky tourists. Two Thunder tickets were to be given away for the best dressed, with additional tickets awarded to door prize raffle winners.
Stress Relief Week is a great way to stop and get a study break, said Meredith St. George, nursing senior.
“It gives me a break to have social interaction, to realize life is going on outside of the library,” St. George said.
Counseling Services officials also have posted links to help with stress and exams on their website, www.okcu.edu/counseling.
The links include a list of local psychiatrists, exam day preparation tips and a stress management plan.
