Student Government Association worked on bonding as a unit at their annual retreat last Saturday Sept. 13.
Last year, the SGA retreat was held at the Devon Boathouse. Last year’s retreat was focused on bonding within the individual branches of SGA.
This year, the retreat was held at the Oklahoma City Zoo. SAC President Mary Ann Grover said they focused more on bonding between branches, as a whole unit.
“We really can grow and learn just by interacting with each other and the other branches,” Grover said.
The SGA showcase that was also originally planned for this weekend has been canceled. This was going to be an event, which explained each branch in detail to the campus. Vice President Terrance Craft said the event was canceled so that SGA members were not overloaded. It was not reschedulaed.
At the SGA retreat, SGA advisors Leslie Black and Liz Donnelly explained the reprioritization process happening on campus.
“We need to make sure that we are aware about what is going on so we can better inform students about what’s going on,” Craft said.
In addition to team building and the discussing the reprioritization process, members also went over the SGA consitiution and bylaws to ensure everyone understood both documents.
There was no goal planning at this retreat. The executive cabinet presented the SGA goals at the student senate meeting on September 2. These goals were voted on and approved by Student Senate. A list of the goals can be found on the SGA website, ocusga.org.
Craft said that he thinks goal planning should be incorporated at the retreat next year.
“I would like to see the retreat a little more goal oriented,” said Craft. “I would like for everyone to be able to give a little more feedback.”
