Oklahoma City University will host the 2015 Sooner Athletic Conference men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, on March 4-7 in the Abe Lemons Arena.
The Sooner Athletic Conference is an organization of NAIA ranked teams from small private colleges and universities across the state of Oklahoma, and has been in existence since 1977. OCU has hosted the basketball tournaments in 2003, 2004, 2011, and 2013.
In a statement about the hosting nomination, Jim Abbot, athletic director, said that OCU is eager to host the 2015 tournament.
“OCU is proud to belong to the nation’s premier small-college basketball conference and to have its teams and athletes perform at their best on our floor,” Abbot said. “We appreciate the opportunity that commissioner John Hudson and the Sooner Athletic Conference has given OCU to showcase our university and community.”
Spots in the NAIA Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will be at stake in the SAC Tournament. The tournament champions secure their spots in the 32-team national tournament. The NAIA Division I men’s national tournament will be played March 18-24, 2015 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The NAIA Division I women’s national tournament will be March 18-24 in Independence, Mo.
