- There’s a Man in the Woods might just be my favorite short of the year so far. The four-minute animated film from Cal Arts student tells the tale of a teacher whose life is destroyed when a rumor told by a selfish child wrecks his reputation. The images are rough and dark, and when paired with the rhythmic, slam poetry-like narration, they tell a haunting tale that will stick with you long after the film’s brief runtime. Take a look at the short here.
- If you’re a sci-fi fan, you’ll love Georgina Higgins and Lee Jones’ Blue Season, a five-minute short about a young girl who wakes up upside down in a locked room, connected to the outside world only though an accidental phone call. The filming is almost uncomfortably tight, adding to the story’s incredible tension and making the twist ending even more shocking. The short can be found here.
- For something on the lighter side, check out Fletch. The one-minute film from Zen Freese follows a professional frisbee player who seeks to change his life. The film is almost manically quick – so quick that it’s almost difficult to keep up. However, the humor makes it worth the attention, and the rapid-fire voiceover narration is a wonderfully funny touch. See the short here.
