- SNL vet and new Late Night host Seth Meyers is set to host the Primetime Emmy Awards, airing August 25th on NBC. “Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL, as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on SNL and Late Night, makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s president of late night and alternative programming. “Plus, with [executive producer Don Fisher’s] vast experience at putting these type of big productions together, we’ll be in great hands.” For more on this year’s Emmys, click here.
- Steven Spielberg will direct the film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel The BFG. The story centers on a little girl who meets a big, friendly giant and joins him and the Queen of England on a mission to stop other giants from devouring children. E.T. scribe Melissa Mathison will pen the script. Production will begin in the first quarter of 2015, with a planned 2016 release. To read more on the project, click here.
- Jude Law has replaced Michael Fassbender in Michael Grandage’s indie Genius, about the real-life relationship between literary giant Thomas Wolfe and editor Max Perkins. Law will play Wolfe, with Colin Firth costarring as Perkins. Pre-production on the film will begin this August. For more on the project, click here.
- Brett Ratner has acquired film rights to the story of Los Angeles Dodger Yasiel Puig’s escape from Cuba. Puig inked a $42 million deal with the Dodgers in 2012 after defecting from his home country and was highly instrumental in getting the team to the National League playoffs last season.
