The future of an on-campus restaurant is uncertain.
Rehearsals Grill may not be open when students arrive back on campus in the fall. This information comes less than a year after a revised version of the restaurant opened sans alcohol.
An employee informed diners Monday that the restaurant is closing May 9, supporting talk on campus that the restaurant would close this summer.
But university officials either won’t discuss the restaurant or seem to refute the claim.
Leslie Berger, director of public relations, wrote in an email that Rehearsals Grill is open and officials plan for the restaurant to remain open until further notice. She declined to comment further on the issue.
Sandy Pantlik, senior director of communications; Nirali Mickow, director of operations for food services, and Rick Hall, vice president for student affairs, also refused to comment on the issue.
Beatrize Martinez, president of Student Government Association; Ben Strealy, retail manager for food services, and Sodexo public relations officers have been unavailable this week for comment.
Conflicting claims of the restaurant’s closure come less than a year after it opened. Rehearsals Grill opened Oct. 28, 2013. The building at 23rd and Virginia is leased to Sodexo, the food service provider on campus.
The restaurant originally was set to open in March 2013, but was delayed after United Methodist Church officials spoke out about the sale of alcohol on campus.
Due to the church’s concerns, officials considered selling the building.
The restaurant opened in October after officials decided to keep an agreement with Sodexo to operate the restaurant, but not to sell alcohol there.
Rehearsals Grill is considered an on-campus dining option, and StarsCash is accepted.
