- For anyone who plays video games (or, in my case, enjoys watching other people play video games), Let’s Play Nomad X is for you. A three-minute short from Kristian Andrews, the film follows a “Let’s Play” reviewer who simultaneously reviews his favorite 90’s computer game and reveals the tale of how he lost his true love – and how he got punched in the throat yesterday. It’s a surprisingly touching film in a charming format. Find it here.
- For something that hits even harder, take a look at Most Shocking Second a Day Video, a two-minute awareness ad from Save the Children that looks at war through the eyes of a young British girl whose life is turned upside-down by conflict. It’s a stunning little film that manages to use viral video techniques to send a powerful message that everyone needs to see. Take a look at the short here.
- I’m not entirely sure I understood Kirsten Lepore’s Move Mountain, but I definitely enjoyed it. An 11-minute stop-motion animation short, it tells the story of a strange little character who is bitten by a poisonous bug and must venture up a mountain to save herself. It’s probably about more than that, but I got lost a few minutes in – probably because the narrative and character motivations aren’t particularly clear. Nevertheless, the animation and score are stunning, making the film worth a watch despite its flaws. See it here.
